Simon Rogerson: Founder of Octopus Group

11 Aug 2021|38 min read

Simon Rogerson is an entrepreneurial heavyweight who co-founded his first business, Octopus Investments in 2000 when he was just 24 years old. Since then, it has grown it from a fund manager into a wider group spanning energy, healthcare and investing, built around a purpose-led approach to business.

Before Octopus, Simon started his career in door-to-door sales, studied at St Andrews, and then joined Mercury Asset Management (later Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, now part of BlackRock). He left within a couple of years, together with two colleagues, to found Octopus, at a time when financial services was rated the least trusted industry in the world, a gap he saw as the opportunity.

We discuss how he started his career, the purpose and values of his businesses and how they reached B Corp status.
