In this video, Nersen Pillay, Senior Investment Director at W1M, discusses how the multi-asset funds are navigating the current global macroeconomic environment. He explains that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have continued to influence expectations for growth, inflation and interest rates, although improving market sentiment and strong company earnings helped equities rebound in April. The multi-asset funds delivered positive returns over the month, supported by holdings such as AMD, Alphabet and Japanese automation company Keyence, while gold, precious metals and energy stocks were weaker after previous strong performance. The team remains neutral on equities, focusing on the long-term investment case for around 50 individual companies held across the portfolios, while maintaining an underweight position in fixed income due to persistent inflationary pressures. Real assets, including infrastructure and energy-related holdings, continue to play an important role in helping mitigate inflation risk and benefit from long-term themes such as decarbonisation and infrastructure investment. Overall, the funds remain diversified and positioned to manage ongoing uncertainty and potential market volatility.
